That Mr. Terrific pilot is bizarre...easy to understand why Alan Young didn't want to do it. The actual show starring Stephen Strimpell was a lot more fun and had a great theme:

The most rare and unusual TV pilot I'd like to see is THE 13TH GATE starring Karl Held and David Opatoshu, a sci-fi secret agent hour that was actually aired once on TV in 1964 or 65. The music was by Vic Mizzy, who gave us the immortal Addams Family theme among many others. All I know about THE 13TH GATE is what a friend who actually saw it told me: he said it had an alien being who looked a lot like the chubby Michelin Tire man!

Wasn't there a show with a similar premise called "Captain Nice"? Similar to "Mr. Terrific" I mean.

Yes, Captain Nice which aired on NBC starred a young William Daniels (before he was Benjamin's Father in The Graduate) and Ann Prentis(sister of Paula Prentis of He and She. The show's creator was Buck Henry (who was co-creator with Mel Brooks of Get Smart)Captain Nice was demoted and cancelled after one year.

Sorry about the repeat. I only type this once but IA printed it three times. There's something with IE that does that at times.

Cos;
The 13th Gate sounds pretty strange alright. Did they have the "alien" do so Michelin commercials on air?

I don't think it was the same alien suit as the Michelin man, just that it looked similar, according to my friend who saw and described it. I gathered from him that THE 13TH GATE was a bit like a cross between Outer Limits and Man from UNCLE.

Sounds a bit wild, to say the least.

Indeed. The way you described it Cos, it sounded similar to parody of the secret agent genre.
